Best Way to Heal Baby Eczema Naturally and Quickly
We’ve all heard the saying, “soft as a baby’s bottom” and boy are their little bums soft! But it’s also common for babies to have dry patches of skin since their skin is so delicate and can be easily irritated by clothing, soap, detergent, and other factors.
My son had dry patches on the back of his upper thighs and back of upper arms as baby. I was able to clear it up quickly with coconut oil.
Then at about almost three years old he started having really dry and red cheeks. One day I noticed on one side of his face there were raised bumps if I looked at an angle. Our pediatrician said that it looked like eczema that was caused by something rubbing that area (or contact dermatitis).
Since our pediatrician is a naturopathic doctor, the plan was to start making simple swaps to see if it cleared up.
Here’s what I did and within a week my son’s skin was completely cleared up:
Step 1: Change laundry Soap
During the winter months when kids wear long sleeves and inevitably have those pesky runny noses, clothes come in contact with the cheeks when kids smear their wet boogies (despite us teaching our son to use a tissue – this still happens at school).
So, changing the laundry detergent made sense as a first step. We did use an eco-friendly detergent from the store specifically for sensitive skin, but we swapped to Molly’s Suds instead.
Molly’s Suds is an AMAZING company with AMAZING non-toxic cleaning products. They use healthy ingredients that you can count on one hand in their laundry soap and other cleaning products. The company is owned by a mom, too!
I love their Liquid Laundry Detergent – enough for 50 loads! $18.50
We started seeing an immediate change once we switched to using a bamboo washcloth and bath towel. Juddlies Bamboo Hooded Bath Towel and Bamboo Washcloths are my favorites. I never felt anything SO SOFT and luxurious. My son loves his towel so much, he asks to sleep with it at night.
Bamboo is a magical fabric. Regular cotton washcloths are soaked with toxins. I was shocked to learn this!
- Bamboo is made in a safe, eco-friendly process.
- It’s hypoallergenic.
- Perfect for sensitive skin which means ideal for babies and toddlers.
- It’s antibacterial.
- Known to soothe baby’s fragile skin.
- Helps reduce allergies.
- Extremely soft and gets softer with each wash!

Step 3: The Healer Skin Stick
I tried so many healing balms and eco creams that did not take away his red cheeks, but then I found this! The Healer Stick works like MAGIC! It’s AMAZING.
It’s from Perfectly Posh, which means all the ingredients are safe and healthy. It’s easy to apply to dry skin patches and is safe and natural.
- Shea butter nourishes, moisturizes, and softens skin.
- Beeswax works to draw moisture into skin, as well as lock it in to provide moisture.
- Orange essential oil is full of vitamin C that helps brighten skin.
- Vanilla is full of antioxidants that help calm and soothe skin.
YOU WILL LOVE THIS shea butter healing skin stick for babies. $14.99 and worth every penny.
The stick lasts me 2-3 months.
Step 4: Change Bath Soap
Even though I always bought natural bath soap for my child from the store, I had a feeling it was an irritant to his skin. I would even break out on my face and when I stopped using it, my skin issues went away too.
After trying a ton of different bath washes for my son, I found THE BEST NATURAL BABY BODY WASH. It’s called Shampoo + Body Wash from The Honest Company.
- Made without sulfates or parabens.
- Gentle and mild 2-in-1 formula is designed to cleanse the entire body from head to toe.
- Leaves skin moisturized and hair soft and clean.Perfect for the whole family – tear-free!
- Cleanses without overdrying helping to keep skin feeling and looking healthy.
I am so relieved that my son’s cheeks are completely clear now. We should baby our kids skin and the above is the super pamper treatment for any baby or toddler to ensure their skin is soft and smooth and not dry.
